SUPERFOODS BITES⚡️ I made date balls this morning filled with yummy superfoods, no sugar added, only what naturally comes from dates. You can make millions of versions of superfoods bites with whatever you prefer. I used what I had on hand and you can use what you have also. Dates are great because they act as a binder, are already sweet but you can also add natural sugars like honey, maple or coconut nectar. Nut or seed butters like almond butter, sunbutter, tahini or pumpkin seed butters are great to add thickness, binding and nutrients too. Play around with mixtures and see what you like the best or what your kids will eat! I sometimes will add melted dark chocolate on the outside to cover the balls with. It’s funny how my kids will not eat this alone but dip them in chocolate and it’s a whole other world! If you use a great organic dark chocolate with low sugar, it also is an added superfood because organic dark chocolate with a high cacao content is great in antioxidants and you and your family will love it!

Here’s the ingredients that I used this morning, I did not measure, just went for a dough forming texture. I know that I used 8 oz. of dates and soaked them in lukewarm water first for about 5 minutes to soften. Add dates to a food processor and process till its doughy, add in your nut or seed butter and process the two together. Remove this mixture and put in a larger bowl, add in your pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds, maca powder, cinnamon and mix. Form balls and pop on the fridge to harden. Keep them stored in a lid container in the fridge until you are ready to eat! Best enjoyed with a cup of organic coffee 🙂

Who uses those typical Banana Boat spray sunscreens? Please protect yourself and  children by not using chemical sunscreens.
The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. These products typically include a combination of two to six of these active ingredients:

  • Homosalate
  • Menthyl anthranilate

Decadent Healthy Chocolate Cake

So I baked a chocolate cake for Father’s Day. I got the recipe from and friend but tweaked it up a little! I’m all about indulging in healthy sweets with a less sugar as possible. The cake was both gluten and dairy free. Since the cake calls for coconut flour its more on the dry side, but there are other ingredients you can add to make it more moist.

Here’s my recipe:

(see links for where to purchase them)

1 cup coconut flour

114/ cup almond four

3/4 cup cocoa or cacao powder

2 tbsp baking soda

1 cup coconut oil melted

8 eggs

1/4 – 1/2 cup coconut flour or 1/4 cup maple or coconut nectar

pinch salt

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks

mix all the dry ingredients together them fold in the oil, eggs, vanilla and maple or nectar if you are using that in place of the coconut sugar. Add in chocolate chunks last after everything is mixed well.

Bake in a bundt pan on 350 for 30-35 minutes, check it at 20 minutes

top with coconut whipped cream or organic chocolate syrup, or both!!

Dangers of Energy Drinks

Advertising, marketing and bright bold colors on the cans or bottles are made to lure you in to these amazingly awesome energy drinks! But beware, nothing is ever as it seems.

So I’m here today to explain to you what exactly is in these mainstream energy drinks and how to read ingredients and more so know what affect they have on your body.

Red Bull, Monster and Rockstar are some of the popular brands of energy drinks out there today. Lets take a look at some of the main similar ingredients in these:

ROCKSTAR: 30+ grams

ROCKSTAR ZERO: 0g BUT it;s made with erythritol which is a FAKE chemical sugar worse for you than regular sugars

As you can see there is tons of sugar for a small can of drink.30 plus grams is alot, you shouldnt even consume that much sugar per day let alone on one drink, that’s my opinion. Sugar from fruits are different so that doesn’t apply there. SUGAR is on of the root causes of disease and chronic illnesses. Disease, candida, inflammation they all FEED off of sugar. Sugar is how these bacteria, fungus and viruses live. When you starve the body of sugar, they cannot survive.

CAFFEINE: these drinks contain way over the limit the body can handle for caffeine. Every body is different but these high amounts make your cortisol levels spike then immediately crash hurting your adrenals glands, bringing them to exhaustion and then your body creates a dependence on that cortisol spike to survive creating a cycle of inflammation.

HERBS: They look great listed as an ingredient right? But you have no idea or source of how they are grown or harvested so most likely they are sprayed with tons of chemicals.

CHEMICAL ADDITIVES AND DYES: you have to realized that the USDA (they careless about your health) does not require certain ingredients to be listed when in smaller amounts, but all health drinks contain dyes, that’s what makes certain ones certain colors, These dyes are not made for consumption, they act as allergies to the body. Other chemicals are added for taste and other factors that harm you also.

Studies have shown that energy drinks do not enhance athletic performance, they do not enhance cognitive performance either.  It’s really scary because mostly younger individuals are attracted to these drinks because they want to fit in and do what everyone else is doing, be accepted and follow along with the trend. But these drinks are harming kids as well as others who consume them.

So if the reason why you are consuming these energy drinks is truly to have more energy, here are some safer and natural options:

  1. strengthen your adrenal gland and thyroid gland by eating a diet free of gluten, and sugars and possibly lower or stop gluten consumption. When you strengthen your overall body, it helps with your energy levels. I take and recommend these two supplements to support your adrenal and thyroid gland. Adrenal Health by Gaia and Thyroid Support by Gaia.
  2. Stay away from processed sugars or too much of any sugar. Sugar will always weaken and halt your immune system
  3. Eat real foods- consuming whole foods preferably organic will fill and feed your cells which is what provide energy to your body.
  4. take a good vitamin B supplement. Vitamin B’s are necessary for cell function and provide O2 and energy production to each cell of your body. A great vitamin B complex is this one and also a great vegan B12 by GHC.
  5. Drink more water, dehydration will zap you of energy
  6. Sleep better, sleep, so simple, but it does a body good.
  7. Stay away from simple carbs like sugars and eat more complex carbs like sweet potatoes, yams and bananas.
  8. Do a full body detox regularly- once a year is preferred, I recommend twice. The best detoxes that I have used and only will use are from Global Healing Center. I recommend the Body Cleanse Starter Kit to start.

Hope this gives you some great info and insight on the dangers of energy drinks.

There’s one brand that is local made in Hawaii that you may want to try. It’s called GREEN and made with pure organic ingredients! Check them out.

Healthy Chex Mix

Healthy Chex Mix!

My son has been bugging to make Chex Mix so I told him we’d do a healthier version. So many people think chex mixes from stores are just cereal so they are healthy. Far from the truth. The cereals normally used are rice, corn and wheat Chex. Those all contain high fructose corn syrup, chemical preservatives and are gmo. The peanuts are usually ones fried in corn or soybean oil which are highly gmo and the butter used is full of hormones and antibiotics and brown sugar used in sweet Chex Mix is just white processed sugar with molasses added to make it brown. Yuk! When you learn how to read ingredients and KNOW what’s in each food you put in your and your children’s bodies, you will begin to take control of your health. So we used healthier ingredients- non gmo puffs and O cereal, raw peanuts, organic spelt pretzels, ghee, coconut nectar, vanilla and cinnamon. The kids and husband loved it!

3 cups of Organic O’s Cereal

3 cups of Barbara’s Puffs Cereal

2 cups Newman’s Organic Spelt Pretzels

2 cups raw peanuts

1/2 cup Organic Purity Farms Ghee (melted)

1 tbsp coconut nectar

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large sheet pan. Spread evenly, use two pans if necessary. In a saucepan heat the ghee and coconut nectar till melted. Pour ghee mix over the cereal and make sure all is coated. Bake on 300 for 15 minutes. Take out and stir around. Bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool. Enjoy!

Clean Teeth. Non-Toxic Brush.

Happy Saturday! I hope you all have fun plans for the weekend! This morning I wanted to share a tip with you to powerfully clean you toothbrushes AND possibly get you to use more greener, non-toxic ones in the process!

We brush our teeth at least twice per day but how often do we remember to clean our brushes. Brushes  are susceptible to bacteria, mold and not to mention little “critters” (nasty, gross!) Cleaning them by soaking is a weekly must to be sure they are not spreading more germs in our mouths.

Heres what I do and I’ll share various options for you:

Get a clean glass jar, fill it with purified water 3/4 from top

  1. 1 tbsp of ACV (apple cider vinegar) (make sure its not white vinegar) and a few drops of clove essential oil. This NOW brand is a great bang for your buck, I always use this brand especially for cleaning.

  2. 1 tbsp baking soda (aluminum free) and a few drops of essential oil. Some great essential oil options: orange, lemon, peppermint, tea tree, clove, grapefruit. See HERE for many oil options.

Let your brushes sit for at least a few hours then rinse very good. Essential oils are strong and you don’t want them aggravating your mouth next time you brush so rinse them well!

As for these great  ECO-friendly, BPA-free BAMBOO brushes, aren’t they awesome! They are also perfect for kids because they are not too soft or too hard and very gentle on teeth and gums. I get the bamboo brushes HERE. They are very inexpensive for a pack of 4 and grab and extra pack when these are no longer good!.

Happy cleaning. Happy brushing.

Fermented Cod Liver Oil Benefits

What is fermented cod liver oil? Sounds pretty disgusting right? Well, here’s why it’s a great supplement for you and your family to take. It provides your body with two important fat soluble vitamins that many are deficient in: vitamin A and vitamin D. Many individuals have healed cavities naturally and remineralized their teeth by incorporating fermented cod liver oil in their diets, along with removing all grains.

Although you can get these two vitamins from foods, they are hard to obtain because either a person’s body cannot absorb all of that vitamin or they are not eating enough of the foods that provide them. Vitamin A is hard to obtain, you can get it from organ meats like liver or grass fed dairy. Vitamin D is best from the sun but many areas of the world do not have sun year round so many become deficient. The brand I have used and love comes in two types: 1. plain fermented cod liver oil and 2. A blend of the fermented cod liver oil with butter oil. The butter oil contains vitamin K2 which works synergistically with the cod liver oil. The company did inform me that the butter oil is casein and lactose free BUT MAY contain trace amounts. If you are very sensitive to dairy I would recommend this butter free fermented cod liver oil. If you are ok with dairy, this cod liver oil is a great mix.

More fermented cod liver oil benefits:

  • Promotes healthy cholesterol levels
  • Supports tooth and bone health
  • Acts as a systemic anti-inflammatory
  • Helps manage ADHD
  • Helps stabilize mood disorders (bi-polar, depression, etc)
  • Prevents formation of atherosclerotic plaque
  • Reduces symptoms of arthritis (rheumatoid and osteoarthritis)
  • Promotes mental health
  • Promotes healthy hormonal balance
  • Supports health of hair, skin, and nails
  • Reduces skin conditions (acne, eczema)
  • Helps reduce asthma
  • Reduces breast cancer risk
  • Helps lower risk of type 1 diabetes when used in the first year of life (taken from Naturalnews)

Hope this will help you understand how it can benefit you and your family
